Herba Artemisiae Scopariae is the dried aerial part of compositae plant Artemisia scoparia Waldst.et Kit.and Artemisia capillaris Thunb.,which is recorded in the china Pharmacopoeia(2005 edition).Herba Artemisiae Scopariae,bitter and slightly cold,can clear damp-heat and relieve jaundice.Recent pharmacological studies have shown that Herba Artemisiae Scopariae can increase bile secretion,protect liver damage,dilate blood vessal,regress the level of cholesterol and triglycerol in the blood,and also has the effects in anticoagulation,anti-inflammation,antitumour and diuresis.In veiw of the actuality that the basic research on Artemisia scoparia Waldst.et Kit.was lack of perfect method of quality control,the subject is to screen out the active fractions and components for Artemisia scoparia Waldst.et Kit.by the pharmacodynamical experiments.Basing these researches,we studied the method of quality control of Artemisia scoparia Waldst.et Kit..To select the effective parts containing liver protection activity in Artemisia scoparia Waldst.et Kit..Divided Artemisia scoparia Waldst.et Kit.into several groups according to different polarities with systematic solution exclusion.The activities of AST and ALT were measured in liver injury mouse model induced by carbon tetrachloride(CCl₄)(P＜0.01).In this experiment,chloroform extract of Artemisia scoparia Waldst.et Kit.can significantly decrease the serum transaminase(ALT,AST) activities in liver injury mouse model induced by carbon tetrachloride.Therefore the chloroform extract was the effective part for protecting liver.Studying on the chemical constituents from the chloroform extract,four compounds were isolated from it..By means of UV,IR,MS,¹H-NMR,¹³C-NMR,they were identified as p-Hydroxyacetophenone,Scoparone,β—Sitosterol and Daucosterol.The p-Hydroxyacetophenone was indicated to be the specific component in Artemisia scoparia Waldst.et Kit.by the study of thin layer chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography. In the reseach,the the quality specification of Artemisia scoparia Waldst.et Kit. was improved and consummated systematically.Referring to the methods of china Pharmacopoeia(2005 edition),we tested moisture content,heavy metals and As,total ash and acid-insoluble ash,ethanol-soluble extraction.For the first time,the subiect took p-Hydroxyacetophenone as reference substance to setup the TLC method,and two assaying methods for total content of coumarin and p-Hydroxyacetophenone by UV-VIS and HPLC,furthermore determined eight batches of medicinal materials.On account of its convenience,sensitiveness,veracity and good repeatability,the method was propitious to control the quality of Artemisia scoparia Waldst.et Kit..In this paper,we screen out the the specific component in Artemisia scoparia Waldst.et Kit.,which can be effective for protecting liver.And established the quality control standards of the Artemisia scoparia Waldst.et Kit..The research was useful to get a standard substance and control and evaluate the quality of the Herba Artemisiae Scopariae.
