The goal of the thesis is to analyze the history and development of the independent documentary movement in China since the 90's and based on this to define the concept of "Chinese independent documentary". It elaborates that independent documentary's Intervention and appealing are very important in our society today:on the one hand the reflections on social issues, on the other hand is an affirmation of citizen participation behavior. It expresses opinion and demands policies on public events and social issues, as well as expects and promotes social progresses.This thesis also investigates the theme and style of China's independent documentary through my graduation film "father", and puts them in the cultural context of modern social discussion of the characteristics. It reveals the spiritual and cultural significance of China's independent documentary and showing a wide range of individual development trend. It uses personal view and motion picture on social lives, social relations, and social problems.It definitely got more independent spirit and humanistic awareness than the main stream documentary...
