School adaptation is a very important indicator to evaluate mental health condition of students. School adaptation impacts not only on the individual's present mental and behavior(such as emotion), but also plays an inestimable role to the future development of young students. Self-concept has been the core field of Psychology for recent years,also,parents are first teachers to children, family functioning owns a significant influence on the establishment and development of children's self-concept.Better self-concept contributes to superior regulation in mental and behavior for students,in order to adapt school life well.Therefore,this thesis will view junior middle school students as the research object,to investgate the relation between their school adaptation, family functioning and self-concept.The thesis is based on the previous researches of the definition and the theory and the relaotionship of school adaptation,family functioning and self-concept.463 junior middle school students were investigated by Family Assessment Device(FAD),Tennessee Self-Concept Scale(TSCS),School Adaptation Inveniory For Junior students. Conclusions are achieved as follows:(1) The whole adaptation of junior students is fine, companion relationship is better than others, academic adaptation and relationship with teacher have some problems.(2)There is significant difference in school adaptation between gender,grade. Results show that:①Female students's school adaptation is better than male students in school attitudes and emotion, academic adaptation,conventional adaptation and the total score of school adaptation②There is a significant grade difference in the aspect of companion relationship, the score of grade three is significantly higher than grade one and grade two.(3)There is significant difference in family functioning between genter,whether singleton, parents'educational lever etc.Results show that:①male students are inferiorer than female students in communication,role, emotional reaction and emotional involvement.②one-child family are superior than non-one-child family in role, problem-solving and control of behavior.③There are significant differences in role,emotional involvement and general functioning of junior middle school students' family function,whose fathers have different educational lever.Also,there are significant differences in role and control of behaviour in mother's different educational lever.However,there is no significant difference in family functioning between cross action of parents'educational lever.(4)There is significant difference in self-concept between gender,grade, urban or rural. Results show that:①male students are inferiorer than female students in self-action.②There is a significant grade difference in the aspect of total positive, self-satisfaction, the score of grade three is significantly higher than grade one and grade two.③Urban students are superorer than rural students in total positive,self-identity and self-behavior.(5) All dimensions of family functioning are positively related to all of the dimensions of self-concept and school adaptation.(6) Family functioning and self-concept can greatly predict students'school adaptation. Emotional involvement,problem-solving of family functioning and self-satisfiation,total positive of self-concept are the most effective factors to school adaptation.(7) Self-concept of Junior middle school students partially mediated the relation of theirs family functioning and school life adaptation.
