Chinese audio-visual instruction, combining watching/listening/speaking together in a relatively realistic language environment for synchronization, which used to be a supplementary teaching, has gradually developed into a universally accepted advanced stage. This paper discusses the necessity and the feasibility to gradate the audio-visual materials both theoretically and practically, and selects the European and American films as audio-visual materials, which have been dubbed into the Chinese version already (like Kungfu Panda) to reduce the barriers of understanding except from the language aspects to the maximum extent. According to the function items as the standard of classification and the difficulties of grammar and vocabulary as the standard of grading, this paper gradates the audio-visual materials into primary, middle and high levels. Next, by using the non-linear video editing software——Premiere Pro, slower the speech-rate by increasing the duration of the audio track and cut the clips of which the words or the lines are more difficult than the average level in the video track, on the premise of not affecting the understanding of the movie plot, then focus on the key points highlighted. In addition, edit and rearrange the target lines and the related clips, insert other clips of the similar function items. Finally, this paper chooses an elementary and frequently-used item——" enquiry " as a sample to make a relatively complete courseware.By making an attempt at several function items, and comparison with other audio-visual courseware, the author give a further consideration on the functional teaching, and describe the procedure and main points of the courseware making in detail, to provide some operational reference for teachers and researchers who are interested in Chinese audio-visual courseware development.
