Guided by the theory of Construction Grammar and three-dimensional grammar, the dissertation makes a full demonstration of the syntactic distribution, semantic features and pragmatic value of the "verb-object compound followed by an object" construction. And meanwhile, it examines the realization methods of the meaning in this construction. The paper consists of six chapters, forewords and summary. The paper is organized as follows:The first part defines the "verb-object compound followed by an object" construction and the range of this study. It also provides the background, the material source and the significance of the study.The second part introduces the literature reviews of the "verb-object compound followed by an object" construction, and points out the merits and demerits.The third part deeply analyzes the syntax and semantics features of the "verb-object compound followed by an object" construction, to discuss the nature of the verb-object compound and the types of the objects. Moreover, it analyzes the semantic relationship between every part of this construction.The fourth part demonstrates the realization methods of the meaning in the construction and explores the basic but different semantic meanings in the construction.The fifth part discusses the pragmatic environment and unique pragmatic value of the "verb-object compound followed by an object" construction.The last chapter presents a summary of the main conclusions and summarizes the merits and demerits of this dissertation.
