The Popularity Of Chinese Archeology Course Of Study

Public archaeology which rose in Europe and America in the seventies of the 20th century was introduced into China in recent years. It attracted attention and caused people to practice. Prior to this, before and after the fifties of the 20th century, China also had a similar formulation and practice. Therefore, the emergence and development of public archeology in China has gone through the course of at least half a century. Compared with the West, China's public archaeology has many characteristics including primary feature, trait feature and synchronization feature. So it is not the product entirely affected by the Western public archeology. China's public archaeology is an important part of archaeology development history. But it has not been concerned by academia or adequately studied in the past years. This paper attempts to study the issues by longitudinally summarizing and horizontally comparing in order to fill the blank of the research field in archaeology development history.This paper traces the origin of public archaeology in China, and reviews it's formation and development. By analyzing the typical significance of events and characters while simultaneously concluding their characteristics and effect, this paper summarizes the concept, contents and propagating ways of China's public archaeology. In addition, this paper also reviews the changes in the way of public participation. Considering the above, China's public archaeology history can be divided into two main stages. One is to propagate archaeology knowledge; the other is to involve the public to participate in. Furthermore, this paper presents some thoughts about further development of China's public archaeology.
