Traditional Chinese Translation Theory The Historical Stage

The present thesis entitled "A Study of the Division of TraditionalChinese Translation Theories" is an academic summarization of theauthor's study on traditional Chinese translation theories (TCTT) inrecent years. By analyzing TCTT, the author finds it is still an openquestion to divide TCTT in a new perspective. Some scholars have beenworking on this matter, their methods to divide being historical. Based onthe study of some popular divisions, the author, finds out the change ofthe major questions as a new divisive basis and make new division toTCTT. Finally, the internal motives to put forward TCTT are searched.The thesis is divided into 5 parts.In the first part, the author, based on his studying other scholars',defines TCTT from a new angle. Secondly, the author retrospects others'studies of historical division and finallay finds a new divisive basis todivide, thus divides TCTT into four periods, namely, Period of Genesis,Period of Development, Period of Maturity and Period of Transformation.In the third part, the author carefully studies 8everal important issues inquesion, which are closely related to the Division itself, such as therelations between two periods, the causes of the formation of each period,the developmental pattern, some major translators and the internalmotives of the development of TCTT. On the discussion of thesequestions, the Divisions are firmly based. Finally the conclusion isnaturally drawn from the author's study.
