This is a report of the translation of “Anthropological Theories of Religion”,written by Stewart E. Guthrie and originally published in The Cambridge Companionto Atheism in2007. After an introduction to the background and significance of theproject, and the author, main contents, structure and linguistic features of the sourcetext, the report analyzed in detail the difficulties encountered and translating methodsused in the process of translation. It suggests that the guidance of the standard ofFaithfulness and Smoothness, with specific translating methods like amplification andomission, translation conversion, combination and division, if applied appropriately, isof great help for the translation of research articles. It also leaves space for someunsolved problems in the translation project.
