Translation methodology is usually established on the basis of comparativelinguistics, including the way of 'eeking common ground while reservingdifferences? and the way of 'eeking common ground among differences? This paper deals with the former by using language functions and stylisticcharacterized features to accomplish the bilingual transformation. It is a translationmethod based on functional linguistics for the purpose of realizing equivalencebetween the source and target texts on the level of stylistic functions. Languagefunctions are the normal mechanism of language, while style is the deviatedmechanism of the language functions. Different styles require different languagefunctions and the overlapping between different styles lead to that between differentlanguage functions. However, the characterized features of the same styles of twolanguages have the universalities. In this sense, we can find a transforming channelbetween two languages with style as a bridge. This kind of stylistic functionaltranslation method is applicable to both literary and non-literary translation. After that, the paper verifies the feasibility of applying the stylistic functionaltranslation method to C/E science-technology translation on the basis thatcharacterized features of both styles are of identity. Finally, this paper delves into science-technology translation on the level ofthought patterns from the logical and aesthetic viewpoints in scientific translating.Translation is not only a bilingual activity, but also a logical thinking activity. It is thecrux of an excellent translation to understand the source text well. Scientific articlesare beautiful because of their integrating the content with linguistic formharmoniously in objectivity, accuracy, rigor, and conciseness, which are fourcharacteristics of science-technology. The last two chapters highlight the importanceof the four characteristics in scientific translating.
