Fixed Chinese Language Theory And Related Fields Of English Study

This paper emphasizes on the language unit, which is bigger than word, however the function of this unit is almost the same as that of word. According to the opinion of a language expert Mr. Liu Shuxin, we call this unit Gudingyu- -set phrase. At the same time, we divide this unit into chengyu , guanyongyu , xiehouyu, name phrase, terminology and subject phrase. The subset phrase is not a type, which is parallel to the other types. It is called the ready set phrase is because it's not so stable as the others. Also because most of both the terminology and name phrase have specific meaning, they are not the basic materials for the language activity. Therefore, we are not going to focus on them in this paper. Thus chengyu , guanyongyu , xiehouyu and subset phrase are called idioms together.We draw this conclusion from the research on the Chinese idioms. Is this still available for English idioms? We are going to check it out in this paper. Except xiehouyu , English idiom have the corresponding three columns. Of course, English idiom has its own characteristics. Based on these characteristics, we divide English idiom into lexical idioms, phraseological idioms and ready set phrase. In this paper, we carry out research on these characteristics.
