The two debates of "The Culture of West and East" in May 4th period and the 1930's are considered to be an essential part of the China's Modernization ideological trend. The found and explanation of the Westernization Theory in these two periods not only reflect the reaction and choices of the Chinese intellectuals facing the confliction of the western culture and tradition culture, but also in some degree influence the feature of the whole society, the fortune of the nation and the moderation process of the country. The paper is going to compare carefully and study deeply the Westernization Theory in the two debates so as to provide a preliminary sequence of the inherit and development of the theory, reflecting the track of the Westernization Thoughts of China in this twenty years. By such a comparison we can explore the development of the Modernization ideological trend in the recent one hundred years, especially since the May 4th period.The paper is mainly composed of three parts.Part I The review of the creation and development of the Westernization Theory in the China's Ideology History. Introduce the process in which the theory evolves from the material to institution till thought at last. This part emphasizes on the development of the Westernization Theory in the two debates of "The Culture of West and East" in May 4th period and the 1930's.Part II The comparison of the Westernization Theory in the two debates. The fundamental of the theory, the value-system, the attitude towards traditional culture and western culture would be compared in order to find the identical and difference of the theory in these two periods.Part III The discussion of the results of the comparison. Meanwhile, introduce the change from the concept of " Westernization" to "Modernization" and what the Modernization of Culture means to China's Modernization Construction nowadays.The concluding remark By concluding the comparison above we can get the experience and lessons which benefits the China's ModernizationConstruction nowadays.
