The study of the numeral-measure word phrase of modern Chinese is not only important in the study of syntactical theory, but also very helpful for the teaching of Chinese to foreign students and minority students. In addition, this study is also helpful for the study of natural Chinese language processing in the computer. Therefore we have paid much attention to the syntactical characteristics of the phrase to try to meet the requirement of language processing. This dissertation consists of six chapters:Chapter one: Gave an overlook of the study of numeral words, measure words, and the numeral-measure word phrase in the past, set up the goal of studying the phrase based on the large scale texts corpus, due to the lack of this kind of study in the past.Chapter two: According to the syntactical functions of the phrase, we gave the categories of the numeral-measure word phrase: one is the nominal measure word phrase which could not be a complement, and the other is the ones which could be a complement, including verbal measure word phrase, adjective measure word phrase, and the time measure word phrase.Chapter three: First gave the verbs which lack the meaning of frequency and discussed the relation between the numeral-measure word phrase and it, then analyzed the syntactical condition in which the verbal measure word phrase is used as an object or complement, and finally described the characteristics of the verbal measure word phrase being used as a complement.Chapter four: First gave the condition and described the characteristics of the verbal measure word phrase being used as a modifier, then discussed the following elements which consist of full words, and also discussed the difference between the verbal measure word phrase and the nominal measure word phrase in the combination.Chapter five: Focusing on the structure of "verb + verbal measure word phrase + following elements consisting of full words", we discussed the ambiguity of the syntactical function of the verbal measure word phrase in it. We think the function could be made clear according to following six aspects:(a) The characteristics of the verb. The verbal measure word phrase could be an object or a modifier if it is following the verb which lack the meaning of frequency, otherwise it could be a complement.(b) The characteristics of the following element consisting of full words. The verbal measure word phrase could be a complement if the element is a proper noun or an oration.(c) The function of the structure of "verbal measure word phrase + following elements consisting of full words". The verbal measure word phrase could be a modifier if the structure could be used without the verb or could be an object of "you" or "shi". Otherwise it could be a complement.(d) The meaning of the verbs in the structure. When the following element includes a verb, there are two verbs around the verbal measure word phrase: the front one V1 and the back one V2. If the meaning of action of V1 is more prominent than V2, it could be a complement. Otherwise it could be a modifier.(e) The movement of the verbal measure word phrase in the structure. It could be a modifier if it and its following elements could be moved to in front of the verb. (f) The ratio of the syntactical function of the verbal measure word phrase which could beidentified clearly in the texts. For a few of verbal measure word phrases which its syntactical function is too difficult to be identified in a sentence, it could be decided on the ratio.Chapter six: gave the conclusion of the discussion in this full paper, and put forward the research goal of this field.
