Yang Liang was an important scholar in the Tang Dynasty, whose Notations on Xunzi (《荀子注》) is his representative works. It is Yang Liang who is the first to annotate Xunzi ( 《荀子》 )and his notation has been an important tool of the study of Xunzi ( 《荀子》) for the predecessors studying on Xunzi (@) , generally speaking, began with Yang's. By generalizing Yang's exegectical ways and measures, distinguishing and analysing their merits and demerits, the thesis classifies the demerits, and shows the author's own views. The thesis was composed of five parts. The first part briefly introduces the book of Xunzi (《荀子》) and the present conditions of the study on Yang's notation. The second summarizes Yang's exegectical ways and measures of Yang's in the sound, meaning, form of some words and grammar, rhetoric, context and collation. The third distinguishes, analyses, and thereby classifies the demerits into the following nine categories; making wrong for ignoring Xunzi's meaning; misunderstanding the meaning of words, grammar, phonetics loan characters, analogy, context, and pinctuations; slipping up in collation and adding extra words to interpret. The fouth advances some new views about others' notes on Xunzi (《荀子》). The last is the concluding remarks. The second and third parts are the focuses of the thesis.Yang Liang's Notation on Xunzi ( 《荀子》杨注 ) touches on considerablely extensive content, but the thesis only studies its exegectical achievements and demerits. The author humily requests present teachers' advice on the mistakes, which were made, because of her limited academic knowledge.
