The study of Kizil grotto fresco is one of the basic subjects of fine arts history of Chinese western region & Buddhism. 'Jataka' plot fresco, which is part of the Kizil fresco, has the most intriguing plots, relates the most about life, and indicates the most painting characteristics. It not only serves as the direct materials to the study of Qiuci Buddhism and Buddhism art, but is of great value to the exploring of other fields besides Buddhism. Currently, considerable publishing of pictures and deeper study of individual case have given rise to good conditions for comprehensive study on 'Jataka' fresco. Beginning with the definition and evolutionary connotation of 'Jataka', this thesis focuses on the studies on the 'Jataka' fresco such as space-time background of emergence, distribution and layout, pattern evolution, artistic features and aesthetic significance, in order to probe into this kind of correlation of art. With the help of Buddhism culture and art History, this thesis sorts and classifies the historical materials concerning 'Jataka', and makes reasonable analysis and explanations.
