From late period of Tang Dynasty on to the early period of Song Dynasty ,the faith in Buddhism had almost become dominating in "the general knowledge and faith" for the people of Dunhuang, To most Buddhist believers, pursuing the understanding Buddha religious doctrines was much harder than practicing it to express their piety. As a result, activities concerning various types of charitable and pious deeds at Dunhuang were prevailing, most which were companied with the corresponding fast ceremonies. Therefore, the study of the fast ceremonies can serve as an acess point to that of the local religion, through which we can not merely reproduce the tocals' thinking at that time and gain better insights into the aspects of the culture in the way of "the principle of empathy".Chapter one reviews the fast ceremonies of Dunhuang in a historical perspective, and analyses their procedures and influences then. Based on this chapter, the second studies the value system of life and death, and of diseases from the late Tang Dynasty to the early Song Dynasty at Dunhuang; Taking lighting lamp of fast ceremonies as example, the third chapter describes the relations between faith and ceremony, and on this basis has probed into the significance of the loosely-scattered religion. From the analysis, we can see that the Chinese traditional ceremony culture had been carried on through Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism, but none of them had fundamentally influenced the people's psychology. The people of China weaved their faith ingeniously in line with the principle of "believing cleverly", "three religion interjected" was only an apparent phenomenon, what had really occupied the leading position was the loosely-scattered religion. And the Fast ceremonies integrated with the daily routine expressed nothing but the ideological needs of the believers. The faith itself as a twisted attachment to life had dominated the mental activities of the people through popularization and the concern for common people. The deviant Buddhism faith included. Under the influence of the loosely-scattered religion, people of China made the originally Godless Buddhism into one of pantheism religions, consequently, Buddhist belief had been closely connected with people's life and their way of thinking, and eventually integrated with common people's life and became an organic component of thoughts of ordinary people.
