It was a palmy times for chorography in Qing dynasty. During this time the theory of chorography had been founded and maturated gradually. The basic work such as the contents, compilation and theory of chorography had also developed enormously.<> , which was compiled by central government, represented the highest level of compilation and impelled progress of chorography. The tome had been compiled by five emperors, Kangxi ,Yongzheng ,Qianlong Jiaqing and Daoguang for three times, with three roll of books based on local chorographical books.In this article, I want to discuss the characteristics of the contents and the system of compilation by contrasted the three tomes longitudinally. Meanwhile, by contrasted with Yuan and Ming Dynasty National Chorography, we will have a full-scale understanding with the system of compilation of chorography. It helps us to understand the culture of Qing Dynasty.There are four chapters in this article. In the first chapter, I discuss the reason, process and compilers; in the second chapter, the contents and system of compilation of the book are generalized and contrasted; in the third chapter this book is compared with Yuan and Ming Dynasty National Chorography; at the last chapter, I sum up the significance of the book. It was the most important chorographical book.
