As a mental reflection of social subject, social mentality consists of social sense, psychological tendency and cultural spirits. In essence, it spiritually reflects how the changes of social being influence the social subject. Social mentality indicates the vital incentive and momentum for social behavior, which has been affecting and controlling people's social activity and behavior choice. It is well known that one of the most important outcomes of Anti-Japanese War is to change the structure among domestic political forces. After the war, China faces to make a choice between peace and war. While Kuomintang and Communist Party seek to solve the problem by force, the Middle Intellectual prefers to the Middle Route. This social mentality concentrates on how the evolvement of domestic politics, economy and culture impacts the mind of intellectuals, and how the intellectuals' mental conversion retroacts on the current political situation. The thesis is composed of preface, text, conclusion and appendix. Part one reveals that the intellectuals politically sue for peace and constitutionalism, and how they failed. Part two summarizes the intellectuals' mentality about economic reform, which is called New Capitalism. With the fancy of New Capitalism being broken, the government's economic authority inevitably falls among the Middle Intellectuals. Part three analyzes the conflicts between real life and social mentality. Under these conflicts, the intellectuals began the transformation of their own ideal personality, and weakened the psychological identity with the government.Part four illuminates the characteristic and meaning of the intellectuals' mentality transformation. The transformation foretells that the groundwork of Kuomintang was unavoidably walking up towards breakdown.
