The history of the Dali Kingdom is the distinctive composition of Yunnan local history. And it occupies an important place in Chinese notional history. Trying to begin with the two respects, the Dali Kingdom and the Song Dynasty from many angles, this essay discusses the relationship between the central authorities of the two Song Dynasties and the Dali Regime as well as the enlightenment it may give us. The whole essay falls in to four parts:Part One expounds the establishment of the Dali Regime and the situation of its social development. By discussing the process of setting up the Dali Regime, its territory, military force, the level of economic and cultural development and the nationalities within its boundaries, there comes the conclusion that the time of the Dali Regime is an important phase in Yunnan history. And studying the history of the Dali Kingdom has great significance to our understanding of the taking-shape and development of the Chinese national unity.Part Two discusses the features of the relationship between the central authorities of the two Song Dynasties and the Dali Regime. It carries the analysis mainly from the two aspects, the process of asking for and accepting the conferment of titles and economic and cultural relationship between the central authorities the two Song Dynasties and the Dali Regime. It holds that the central authorities of the two Song Dynasties did not give "Legally" subject status to the Dali Regime even after stalling for a longtime, but their economic and cultural contact with it had never discontinued. That reflects a kind of unpartitionable flesh-and-blood connections between the inlands of the central plains and frontier.Part Three is the focal point of the whole essay. It gives a very detailed analysis of the causes of distinctive political relations between the Song Dynasty and the Dali Regime from many angles. It points out that the emergence of such relationship not only has such internal reasons, such as mutual economic, military, and religious ones, etc, but also has influencefrom its individual traditional political thinking. And on the whole, it is the result of many factors acting on together.Part Four is the conclusion. Based on the exposition of the whole essay, it concludes that the political relationship between the central authorities of the two Song Dynasties and the Dali Regime is extraordinary, and their economic and cultural relations can't be more intimate. Without any doubt, for this the song Dynasty should assume the main responsibility. The Song Dynasty should have consented to the Dali Regime's request for conferring titles earlier, it should have got rid of any precautions and made further and deeper reinforcement on connection and cooperation, that will be the best plan to promote mutually healthy and dynamic political relationship.
