Morandi had been considered to be put on the edge of the modern art during the first half of the 20th century. Critics regarded him as a conservative, a localist with Italian tastes and an a typical artist lacking sense of the times. At the end of the 20th century, however, Morandi was recognized by scholars. Not only the Classical elements in his art were accepted, but his importance as an art revolutionary was valued.Morandi devoted himself to a single composition theme. The composition of his characteristic drawing was actually a profound exploration in visible perception. He accepted the Cezanne's theory and tried to find the basic visible structure. He discarded not only the physical characters, but also any literary, moral, philosophical and religious meanings. In Morandi's opinion, only space, light, color and forms were the basic visible elements and the pictorial language . In the Western art of the 20th century, Morandi was special and he was a true thinker. Many Chinese artists discovered what they wanted in Morandi's art in the 90's. But there are few writings about Morandi's paintings, not to mention the detailed research. So this article is intended to analyse Morandi's paintings and discuss his artistic idea.
