Semantic Study Of The Number Of Phrases

This paper emphasizes particularly on semantic content, interior and exterior semantic restriction of numeral-quantifier compound together with ambiguous numeral-quantifier compounds , in order to acquire a comprehensive and intensive acquaintance with numeral-quantifier compound.This paper consists of three parts . Firstly we analyze the different aspects of the sematic content of the numeral-quantifier compound and indicate that the different semantic aspects corresponding with different syntactic representation, form a compact system focusing on expressing the semantic category of "quantity".Then we labor over sematic restrictions between the numeral-quantifier compound and headwords(noun,verb, adjective),as well as numeral and quantifier,and put forward that there is a semantic chain with the center of quantifier: numeral ←quantifier ←headword. As further analyzations,we probe into the influence of the semantic restrictions on arrangement of numeral-quantifier compound and put forward that the arrangement of numeral-quantifier compound is not only a kind of usage but also cuased by deep-seated semantic features.The research on ambiguous numeral-quantifier compounds is another important part of the paper.We sum up the ambiguous numeral-quantifier compounds and divide them according to seven kinds,then make material analyzationon each one's sematic features,and probe into the causes ,condition of ambiguous numeral-quantifier compounds and the meas to avoid numeral-quantifier compounds.
