Objective To analyse the essential factors of form in painting and visual world of nature, finding the relationship between them, exploring the connecting point of means combining the essential factors and aesthetic activity. Method By whole observation and comparison, resemblance and common character were aimed to be found in the aspect of essential factors which generally lie in fine art and visual world of nature. Thinking of this kind of resemblance and common character focuses on the reason of their origin and classification of form. The typical painting examples in Chinese and European art history were introduced to make deep analysis of visual essential factors of these works in several aspects. The examples of pictures which contain mathematical relation were also introduced to explain the inside cause which control the variation of picture itself and to find the sense of beauty in non-artistic field. Result The applying of line indicates that the concept of using lines to depict objects is deeply rooted in the minds of different races in different periods of history. Conclusions The essential factors of form are significant in both expressive and realistic paintings. They link up the artistic products and real existence. To some extent the sense of harmony is equal to that of beauty. The classification of different style by Wolfflin is important, but he made inaccurate distinction between particular works by certain artists. The cause of formation of colors was explained in thesis, the affect and symbolical meaning of geometric body were also explained.
