Image: The Pursuit Of Poetry Ontology

Since Hu Shi has published " discusses the new poem" in 1917, Chinese modern poem theory criticism has already passed by the trials and hardship spring and autumn of nearly one century. Compared to Chinese classical poem theory, it is a modern new poem that Chinese modern poem theory is criticized in the face of the target. This makes modern poem theories criticism has many differences with the classical poem theory. Just because of this, modern poem theories are full of twists in its development. From its development we can see that the poets and criticizers has worked hard for it. In its development the modern poem theory has many deficiencies, the modern development has developed with striving these deficiencies. This paper discovers that one of deficiencies is that the modern poem theory has ignored the ontology of poem by studying the history of the modern poem theory. It has often inclined to analyze the real world or the writer, however always ignored the status of poems .The image theory of new poem has overcame this deficiency because it has regarded the poem as the existence with its own value ,but not as the appendage of poets and the real world . The image theory of new poems has contributed to the development of the Chinese modern poem theory by seeking the independent status and value of poem.Because the image theory has been neglected for long time ,it is necessary to discuss on the history of the image theory to prove its existence. The image theory of new poems has included a course from establishment to mature. This course has suggested the seeking for the ontology of poem. This pursue of ontology of poems has included two aspects: seeking to the essential characteristic of the poem and its own value independent of poets and the real world. The image theory of new poems has been affected by both the China classical poem theory and the western modern literature theory. The relation between it with the China classical poem theory and the western modern literature theory should be discussed. We must note this fact that the postmodernism has challenge the image theory of new poems. How to tackle this challenge is another problem to solve.
