Luoyang was the East Capital of the Sui and Tang Dynasties.It was a prosperous cosmopolitian center of this period. But very few reports of the tombs,especially the dated tombs of this period had been published for a long time.The study of the periodization of tombs is one of the basic and important academic subjects ,on which focused by many scholars .Based on mang new excavated material, especially, the dated tombs provided by The Tang Tombs in Yanshi Xingyuan and Tombs of the Jin and Tang Dynasties at Zhitian, Gongyi ,this article attempts to restudy the periodization of the Sui and Tang tombs in Luoyang area.Over 100 dated tombs of the Sui and Tang Dynasties have been discovered up to now in Luoyang area .According to the results of study and analysis of the material from 108 dated tombs in respect of the development and changes of tomb shape and structure and the composition and characteristic of funerary objiects, this article puts forward a six-phase division:The first phase belongs to the Sui and the early stage of the early Tang; the second phase occupies the late stage of the early Tang, the third and the fourth periods coincides with the flourishing period of the Tang Dynasty, the middle Tang and the late Tang belong to the fifth and the sixth stages.
