Research On The Common Area Of Luoyang In Tang Dynasty

Backed by the development of Sui Dynasty,meanwhile been Tang Dynasty's crucial political,economic,cultural and external exchange center,the city of Luoyang was a international metropolis.Through analyzing the processing of every spatial form in this city,we could understand the reality of Tang Dynasty's society even better.Although there had not really the concept of “ common area” in ancient time,Tang Dynasty did has this mechanism called Block-lane system,hence practically the common space was existed,it could be divided into several main area by their different functions: transportation,economy,religion,livelihood,recreation and so on.According to the space division of Luoyang city in Tang Dynasty,its common area should includ transportation,economy and livelihood.Transportation space was the basic infrastructure to a city,it had waterway and land route,convenient and speedy traffic can provide fundamental guarantee to the communication and development for other spaces.Economy space was the power source to a city's vitality,the economic activities always took place at the markets,economic growth not only directly effected the consumption of cloth ware and catering industry,also it drove the whole city to move forward.The livelihood space was the main area where the citizens live,“Lifang” was the smallest unit in the livelihood area,it provided the space for citizens to build their houses,and offered places for religious activities as well as leisure facilities,which brought the city more entelechy and vigor.Lifang extended the government departments' function as well,enhanced their efficiency of city management.Tang era was civilized and cultural inclusively,seeing it from the modern perspective of common area brings out the freshness and elasticity,it will help us understanding the animation of Luoyang people more comprehensively and more vividly.
