"Instant" and "non-instant" have been the main types of temporal constitution in painting. For a long period, the significance of instant in painting has been overly intensified, considered as the quintessence in traditional western painting which was characterized by "the scientific". The artists devoted to "instant" painting had accomplished the following: out of science creed, they had explored the perspective law in painting; they realized that drawing of still life help to fix the instant of mobile objects; they studied anatomy to penetrate the origin of physical movement for the fixation of instant; and they, through the training of sketch, synthesized the above-mentioned knowledge. Ever since the Renaissance until the Impressionism period, the arts, whose ultimate aim was to display the instant, had experienced one climax after another.Nevertheless, instant as a term, even in scientific sense, is comparative. And "non-instant" art can also genuinely reflect art reality. Naturally, at the beginning of modern arts, the Cubism and the Futurism, in order to get rid of the limitation of the "instant "creed, turn to "non-instant" textural way of arts, which had been the other traditional way of painting but long neglected. Non-instant arts mainly concern the motion of perspective and object as well as temporal image. In the switched perspective, painters switch the texture according to their present feeling instead of holding the "self in a fixed position. This kind of constituting has been widely used in traditional Chinese painting, as is also often the case in art works in other countries or in folk arts. By describing the motion of objects, traditional non-instant arts concentrates on the plot of a story while the futurism lay emphases on the course and time of the motion. We can learn a lot from arts of the areas less or not influenced by civilized European arts, including Africa, America, the Near East, India, China and Japan. We can also benefit a lot from European paintings and sculptures of early stage.
