Honorific system exists in both Chinese and Japanese , at the same time it has become an indispensable section in people's daily language . The past research suggests that there are generality and differences between Chinese honorific system and Japanese honorific system . In this field of what are their separate characteristics and how to translate honorific words , it is necessary for this thesis to choose it as the subject of study owing to the defects in the research that focus on Chinese honorific system and Japanese honorific system at present.This thesis is based on the simultaneous modern Chinese with the content: first, to clarify the dividing line and analyze the constitution of Chinese honorific system and Japanese honorific system ;second , to compare the ways of expression of respect in Chinese honorific system and Japanese honorific system ; third , to analyze the degree of expressing respect; forth , to apply the above research achievements ; fifth , to sum up the above research achievements .This thesis mainly takes the following three study methods : the first one is quantitative analysis ; the second one is comparative analysis; and the last one is the combination of extensive and narrow meanings .Through the comparative research of Chinese honorific system and Japanese honorific system , the following conclusions are got : first , the lexical function has discrepancy in the translation aspect of Chinese honorific system and Japanese honorific system ;second , there is a close relationship between the degree of expressing respect and the extent of meanning ; third , unity exists in the morpheme of expressing respect; forth , in the means which contains both direct address and indirect address , the degree of expressing respect in determined of the former one .
