Since the 1990s to the beginning of the new century, a exploring trend of film has emerged both in western and oriental countries'films, featured by time re-constructing or time re-shaping. The time and space intersection in traditional films has been broken, and the time construction has been dealt in various ways. The trend has made movie—making a reflection of their creator's inner world, whom regard the world and life as fragmental and broken in the post-modernism and consumism context. Based on the retrospection of the nature of time in philosophical development and the western narrative theory, the thesis attempts to offer an analysis about the trend of time construction in recent films.The thesis includes three parts:Chapter One, from a philosophical perspective, clarifies the researching development of time nature, analyses the change of the view of time nature effects the development of film art, and researches the relationship between time and post-modern culture.Chapter Two, recalls the historical progress of time construction in film narrative, which involves three phases: the Soviet Montage School, the Super-realism Movement and the Films of Conscious .Chapter Three, discusses the form and meaning of the time construction in the recent film trend, and makes analysis from film narrative and culture study perspective.The research of time construction in western and oriental countries'films will be greatly helpful for exploring the new field of film study and provide a new angle of film making.
