Piano course, one of the backbone courses in music major in the normal colleges and universities, has been adopting the teaching method of individual instruction appropriate for the specialty study. No doubt that this sort of teaching method occupies a dominant, incomparable position in improving the individual skills in piano. However, for the piano teaching in the normal colleges and universities, the kind of teaching method has been gradually exposing its unitary features, stereotype and deficiencies in the long-term teaching practice.Today, in the 21th century, we have been stepping into an age when any work will be based on the premise that knowledge goes first. With the constantly emerging of various kinds of crossing subjects and merging subjects, the concept of comprehensive courses is being deepened and extended. As a result, the contents of piano teaching in the normal colleges and universities are tending to become comprehensive and multi-leveled, which is doomed to require a kind of new teaching method to cater to the ever-increasing contents and requirements of the teaching reform. Through several years' teaching practice, I am coming to realize that the unitary and stereotyped piano teaching method in normal colleges and universities is badly in need of the reform to some extent. On the basis of the individual instruction, we should draw on the merits of other teaching methods to make up the deficiencies of the previous teaching method, thus I believe a new comprehensive teaching method, associated with the ever-increasing, multi-leveled teaching contents, along with a subtle change in the studying ways of students, centered by the cultivation of students' initiative and studying style, will be established and will also become our research direction.Through reading a large number of relevant books and theses, on the basis of absorbing the advanced experience at home and abroad and those well-established research results, I have been engaging in a thorough consideration and have also carried out some relevant research work. My thesis will explicate the establishment of the comprehensive teaching method applied in the piano teaching in the normal colleges and universities from the aspects of its general summary of the teaching method, the facts and evidences of its establishment, and its features and its application methods, etc.. I sincerely hope that the research work undertaken by me can offer a kind of new thinking way for the teaching reform in the piano teaching in the normal colleges and universities. Consequently, it can also help students as well as teachers fundamentally change the unitary and stereotyped studying method with its further practice, thus cultivating a new studying method featured with highly initiative, self-exploration and practice-combination. As a result, the teaching quality and results will certainly be improved greatly, and the excellent, versatile talents engaging in music teaching facing the 21th century, appropriate for the social development will be educated to the greatest extent.
