Graffiti Art And Public Space

The purpose of this essay is to analyze the inter-relationship of graffiti art and city public space, and to discuss the basic condition and social influence of current graffiti art.The essay will discuss the relation from two aspects.From one aspect, the public space is the soil on which graffiti depends, and the interference and influence of public space should be defined as prerequisite of graffiti art.This argument is based on the research of original meaning, expressiveness, and basic connotation of public space concept, so to argue that, just on the basis of interference in and occupation of public space with proactive and clear direction, graffiti art developed as influential culture phenomenon. And at the same time, the status of interference also determines some important characteristics of graffiti art.On the other aspect, this kind of interference has impact on different sides of city public space, and this impact should be treated more humanely and thoroughly.Through the discussion of this inter-relationship, it is thought that public meaning has been entitled to graffiti art by proactive and clearly direct interfering, and this interfering is where essential value and vitality of graffiti art rely on.
