The Mountain of Wushan, Towering to the Sky is an ancient Yueh-fu title belongs to Eighteen Pieces of Naoge Songs emerged in the Han Dynasty. In its long history from the Han to the Qing Dynasty, the series of Yueh-fu poems entitled The Mountain of Wushan,Towering to the Sky had shown sharp different characteristics in each stage. During its development, the styles had gradually diversified; the artistic means of expression had been increasingly improved; the themes had experienced such a constant expansion and enrichment that six important systems had taken shape in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, while the types had also changed from singleness to diversification.Being closely related to the mountain of Wushan from the very beginning, this series of Yueh-fu poems was endowed with distinguishing features of local culture by the distinctive geographic environment as well as the natural conditions and social customs in this area. Many influential local myths gradually integrated into the poems and created a unique myth system, which made this series of Yueh-fu poems be profound in cultural background and rich in imaginations.This series of Yueh-fu poems, together with the many features and imaginaries embraced distant source and long stream in the history of Chinese literature and exerted an influence on other poems and even other forms of literature works. With the profound cultural connotation, this series of Yueh-fu poems not only occupies an important position in all the poems about the Three Gorges, but also is an integral part of the culture of Wushan and of ancient culture of Chu, and becomes an exotic flower shining in the regional culture of Yangtze River .
