According to most scholars, discourse is divided into spoken discourse and written discourse. Spoken discourse plays an important role in our daily life. As Human being, we express and exchange our ideas by words. We communicate with each other in spoken language. Spoken discourse is linguistic communication regarded as a transaction between speaker and hearer, as an interpersonal activity whose form is determined by its social purpose. So this thesis puts emphasis on spoken discourse. First, to explain the features of spoken discourse which constituted by many relevant dynamic elements. The construction of spoken discourse is a dynamic making-choice process. The thesis analyses the spoken discourse from the point of view of adaptation theory. This is a complete new angle. Adaptation theory claims the usage of language is a continuing choice of words, it's a dynamic process. While the author thinks the construction of spoken discourse is also a dynamic making-choice process. In here, the ides is explained logically and illustrated with examples in detail.
