Ye Mengde's"Shilin Notes on Poetry",as a genre of notes on poetry, is an important work that changed from a discussion focusing on the things to a discussion focusing on the characteristics of words used by poets.There are few articles concerning about"Shilin Notes on Poetry". What's more,the current study on the work's poetic thought is not enough by far. So this thesis studies Ye Mengde's poetics thought in the work"Shilin Notes on Poetry"comprehensively on the basis of his life and creation,trying to give it a objiective remark on its historical status and value.There are four parts altogether:The first part tells of Ye Mengde's life and works and the connection between his life,works and his poetic thought. Ye Mengde is a well-known writer and book-collectors in Song Dynasty.He read extensively and wrote 32 works, 15 of which still exists now. Because of his great learning,the contents of all these works covered Confucianism,Taoism and Buddhism, which can prove Ye Mengde to be a great typical Song Dynasty scholar .Besides, Ye Mengde is also a famous official with good performance as a high-rank administer.His travel experience during his office as an officials created great influence on his writing.When at home,he was active in writing, most of his works were completed in this period. As Ye Meng were knowledgeable and experienced, he was able to look at literature from a higher position, and wrote"Shilin Notes on Poetry"of important theoretical value.The second part, Poetic Thoughts of"Shilin Notes on Poetry".Based his theory on both inheriting the predecessors poetic theotry and criticizing Jiangxi poetic school's style, Ye Mengde established his core ideas and aesthetic categeries about poetry :(1) the"Intuition"theory on the basis of"emotions meeting with scenery untimely".Ye Mengde considered"Intuition"the aesthetic state of the poet's calmness.Under the state of"Intuition",his some feelings stirred up in his hearts and minds when he suddenly encounters certain things with the outside world suddenly.Then the aesthetic images in the poems comes into being, so the poem will be running out automatically. Ye Mengde's work is not only a description of the specific psychological process ,stressing the randomness and chance,but only stresses a profound cultural background , rich experience of art and talented gift in order to realize this.(2) the theory of the style of the"dialectical natural artistic concept". Though Ye Mengde advocated natural, fresh style of writing ,he didin't object to modifying the sentences and words and using allusion. He stressed the"natural and wonderful"beauty in a modifying (or carving) way which should be invisible.In a word,he summarized the two views of carving way and natural way to beauty.(3) the theory of the style of"deep,cuving and subtle characteristics"Ye Mengde explained subtle using the impressions"very tactful not imperative", meanwhile,he also analyzed the formation of the style.(4) the lotus under the morning sunlight"and"small balls flying away from hands"-- Ye Mengde's ghest aesthetic artistic ideal in the work"Shilin Notes on Poetry".(5) The Buddhist poetry. Ye Mengde appreciated Chan Yu poems. He advocated true love and real scenery in the poems ,making artistic conception with broader universe sense, a profound sense of history and a sense of life, emphasizing seamless and Stepping no traces of the highest aesthetic realm. Ye Mengde analyzed the poetic artistic connotion though the Buddhist theory, which not only inherited and developed the fomer theory of artistic connotion,but also summerized his poetic thought in the work"Shilin Notes on Poetry".The third part focuses on the historical status and theoretical value of "Shilin Notes on Poetry". Ye Mengde's"Shilin Notes on Poetry"plays a very significant role in Chinese poetry development history,because it inherits the former poetic theory and influnced the latter poetic theory.This part consists of the following problems: (1) The status and value of Ye Mengde's poetic thought in Chinese poetry history. (2) The status and value of"Shilin Notes on Poetry"in Song Dynasty.The conclusion summarizes"Shilin Notes on Poetry"is a poetic work that has its own view and the core aesthetic categories.The comments on his view and core aesthetic ideas are objective and fair, without bias and personal feelings flavor,and this shows the valuable nature of a theorist of literary arts.
