Ye Mengde Xuchang Poetry Society Research

Founded in the late Northern Song Dynasty and organizing many activities in Xuchang,Xuchang Poem Society by Ye Mengde is a literati community.Under the leadership of Ye Mengde,all the members of the poem society,including Zhao Jiangzhi,Zhao Yuezhi,Xu Kangzong,Su Dai,Su Guo,Su Yue,Cen Rang,Han Zongzhi,Han Zongwu,Han Jin,Wang Shi,Wang Xiang,Zeng Cheng etc.,communicated and made friends with each other,which promotes the development of poetry by Su Family at the turn of the Southern Song Dynasty and the Northern Song Dynasty.This Poem Society has a collection of poems called A Collection of Xuchang Responsory Poems which has been lost.This paper takes Xuchang Poem Society by Ye Mengde as the research object,uses the research methods such as textual research and analysis and focuses on the poems and songs of the members of Poet Society in order to study the original style of the activities of the poets as well as possible.This paper consists of the following four parts:The first part introduces the political and cultural background of the establishment of Xuchang Poem Society by Ye Mengde and the geographical factors of Xuchang.Most of the members of the poetry community have the special identity who are the relatives of the Yuan You party,which are affected by the Chongning Party Ban,therefore their career is not smooth.They live or migrate to the secondary political and cultural center of Xuchang,and their focus of life turns to literary creation.Under the cultural background of “Against Yuanyou Academic”,the members of the poetry society continues to admire the creative concept of nature which is proposed by the Su family,which makes contributions to the inheritance of the poems of the Song Dynasty.The second part discusses the composition of Xuchang Poem Society by Ye Mengde.In addition to Ye Mengde,other 13 members of the group include Chao Jiangzhi,Chao Yuezhi,Xu Kangzong,Su Dai,Su Guo,Su Yue,Cen Rang,Han Zongzhi,Han Zongwu,Han Jin,Wang Shi,Wang Xiang,Zeng Cheng.This part first examines the members of the above-mentioned fourteen members according to the records of the literature and the songs and poems between the members of the poetry community.Moreover,this paper makes a research on the basic profile of the biographical background of the 14 members.The third part discusses the interaction and singing of the members of Xuchang Poem Society by Ye Mengde.As a large poetry community including 14 members,Xuchang Poem Society has not only the songs sung on the party,but also the private songs sung to each other.In addition to the above songs,there are also other forms of poems.Ye Meng's notes records thepoems of many members drinking wine,which shows a different kind of poem society.Xuchang Poem Society members belong to three literary families,and on the basis of the relationship between the family blood,all the members communicate with each other,which establishes a deep friendship.The fourth part discusses the subject matter and artistic characteristics of Xuchang Poem Society by Ye Mengde.It takes Xuchang West Lake as the main venue,and all the songs and poems focus on the description of drinking and singing besides the West Lake,the deep friendship of the members,or an evasive mind.In terms of the artistic characteristics,its poems display a high artistic talent and use a lot of rich allusions.Besides,it takes “totally natural” as the purpose of creation.As a result,the language is plain and natural,and the style is lofty or even magnificent.
