On The Painting Of "traditional" Value Of Understanding

Accompanied with the wave of pursuit of creativeness, change and breakthrough, the significance and value of "Tradition" seem to fade from people's memory. From the starting point of Modernism's rebellion against Tradition, this paper expounds the important effect of traditional realistic painting as the basis for the development of different schools of Modernism. We should reexamine the rebellion of Modernism from the traditional point of view. The first half part of this paper analyzes great masters' works of all schools of Modernism, explains their opinions and views towards "Tradition", and demonstrates the profound influence of Tradition on the development of Modernism. Also the author points out that no matter how Modernism overthrows and abuses Tradition, its paintings have inseparable relationship with traditional paintings from materials to the skills of expression, the view of art, spirit and other aspects; powerfully points out the importance of Tradition towards the development of Modernism, and objectively proves that Modernism is in succession to Tradition while rebelling against Tradition. Moreover, it elicits the analysis of the great value of Tradition for the development of Chinese oil paintings from a dialectical view in the second half part of this paper. Meanwhile, it pointes out that under the attack of the steam of thought of Western Modernism and the cultural aggression mainly in form of ideology, we should have firm faith, analyze the good and bad effect carefully, observe the situation, and persist in lofty artistic characters and spirit. At the same time, we should create oil paintings featured with Chinese characteristics of era in order to face our ancestors and descendants without compunction. The purpose of this paper is to highlight the significance and the real value of Tradition through the new recognition of contemporary traditional realistic paintings, and to emphasize that the important position of Tradition in the history of human art cannot be neglected.
