This article discusses the "novels in the time of terminal paradox" on the basis of Milan Kundera's view of novels.In the introduction, three core concepts are explaned, which are "terminal paradox", "novels in the time of terminal paradox" and "Milan Kundera's view of novels". The "paradox" has two meanings, one is "absurd", i.e. a proposition contrary to received opinions, the other is an apparently self-contradictory statement. "Terminal paradox" is the absolute contradict. And the "novels in the time of terminal paradox" is a stage of novel history, in which time some Central European novelists such as Kafka had their literature creation, and they discovered the terminal paradox of Existence.In chapter 1, the background and characristics of "Novels in the time of terminal paradox" are analysed. "Novels in the time of terminal paradox" have some characteristics such as they narrate the whole European time, they rediscover the forgotten existence, they are continuously.In chapter 2, the author analyze Kundera's discussion of his senior writers and his creation about terminal paradox. Kundera asks the motive of modern war by commenting on Kazak Shake's novel, asks how to face the depreciation of value by analyzing novels of Cloth loch, and narrates the unbearable heaviness of existence by reading Kafka's novels. As a novelist, Kundera discusses some terminal paradox subjects in his own novels, such as light and heavy, soul and body and so on.In chapter 3, the author points out that the enlightenment and the significance of "novels in the time of terminal paradox". First of all, Kundera's view on novels can be summarized by three words: existence, humor and polyphony. According to his view of novels, we know that novels should discover the possibility of existence, should think the paradox of the world, and should help us resist forgets and postpone the trial of morals. |
