China is praised as one of the civilized ancient countries in the world. There are glorious achievements such as Four Great Inventions in the science and technology field in China. It made excellent contributions to human history. However, the traditional Chinese natural science had gradually dropped behind the world during the 16th and 17th, it couldn't run to modern natural science. The modern natural science was introduced into China from the West.The modern natural science formed mainly in the 18th. It combined with technology, and produced great impetus to the development of productivity. In the middle of the 19th, the western modern natural science gradually started to import to China. And it was during the Westernization Movement that modern natural science imported to China comprehensively and systematically.The western modern natural science, which included mathematics, physics, chemistry , astronomy, geography , biology, medicine etc, from basic knowledge to academic theory, and then to applied technique, were systematically introduced into China by way of church school, westernization movement school, books and translations during the Westernization Movement. In this period, some western missionaries and Chinese clerisies such as John Fryer, Xu shou, Hua Hengfang etc, made great contributions to the transmission of western modern scientific knowledge aspect.The input and spread of modern natural science had great influence on Chinese society. It is thought that China didn't start with its modernization course until the Westernization Movement period. Modernization contained quite wide ranges, and it covered social various fields, including economy, politics, thought and culture etc. especially, the development of science and technology had crucial role.Once the scientific viewpoint and method ,theories and achievements had guided and infiltrated the human social life and been applied into each field of the society widely, both people's subjective world and external world changed, and it generated tremendous impact on every aspect of the society. Importing of modern natural science not only produced great influence on social economy as productivity, but also promoted the change of human's thoughts from tradition to modern. Therefore, it produced great impetus to Chinese society with the change from tradition to modern.
