Measure words are commonly used in both Chinese and Japanese language. This paper is intended to make an comparative analysis and a summary of the measure words in both languages with regard to their classification, their structure and the development and changes in their semantic meanings on the basis of an error analysis on the commonly mistakes made by Japanese students. By making clear the common features and the differences between Chinese and Japanese measure words, this paper has its significance in contributing to the intercultural communication and Chinese and Japanese language study.
