In recent years, grammar academic circle has paid close attention to the research of conjunctions. Through several decades' study, grammar academic circle has formed diversified studying methods about the research of adversative conjunctions and acquired plentiful fruits. The thesis selects adversative conjunctions as the objects and does a synchronous analysis from semantics, distribution and typology.The thesis includes five chapters, its concrete contents as follows:Chapter One is introduction, introducing the objective, studying scope, purpose, significance, methods of the research, theoretical background and source of language material.Chapter Two introduces the present situation of the adversative conjunctions in five different period, including the beginning period, the exploring period, the descriptive period, the developing period and the innovative period. Talk about some important opinions and related articles of different period.Chapter Three has a semantic definition to adversative conjunctions. It has two categories of adversative conjunctions. One belongs to a kind of adversative relation with a wide range; the other one is a kind of adversative relation with a narrow range. Explain several related groups of concepts, including sequence connection and reverse connection; opposite converse and contrast; negation; presupposition and connotation.Chapter Four is distribution of adversative conjunctions. They include the kinds of "suiran" and "danshi" categories. It studies their distribution respectively. Also it studies the distribution of the match of "suiran" and "danshi" categories, and the match of adversative conjunctions and adversative adverebs.Chapter Five uses typology to explain adversative conjunctions. First, introduce typology briefly; Second, explain the theory of word-order typology and conjunctions relator; Finally, use "relator theory" to explain the match of "sultan" and "danshi" categories and to explain the structure that "suiran" category located in the second clause. Explain the relation between the match and information structure principle and predict the trend of conjunctions.At last, we sum up the opinion of the thesis and point out the deficiency of the thesis.
