Single-parent or divorced families have long been narrative themes in children's literature. This thesis focuses on the narration of such themes in children's literature and is especially important for its realistic value. It is comprised of two parts. In the first part, the author presents the narrative backdrop of single-parent or divorced families in children's literature. She summarizes the changing image of family, and classifies literatures with such themes into three categories: conflict, growing up and sentiment. Through context analysis, she presents the basic visage of various narration as well as its characteristics. The second part founds on the elementary description and analysis presented above and introduces other literatures to further discuss overcoming such"predicament,"primarily from three layers:①Children's perspective (mentality layer): how to view single-parent or divorced families;②Children's behavior/reaction layer: how to cope with the problem.③Adult's narration (narrative technique layer): how to depict. It is clear in these discussions that children, through their own activities, can recuperate from sadness while adult authors are able to offer energy to facilitate their overcoming. This part explores children's own proactiveness and the influence from adult authors while being in single-parent or divorced families.
