Howard Gardner, Professor of Psychology at Harvard University, developed the theory of Multiple Intelligences (MI) in his book published in 1983, Frames of Mind, in which he proposed seven intelligences (verbal, logical/mathematical, visual/spatial, bodily-kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal, and intrapersonal intelligence), and later the eighth one, naturalist intelligence.Since it was proposed, MI has brought great influence on education. As some scholar pointed out, developing students' multiple intelligences is the trend in Foreign Language Teaching (FLT) in the 21st century. In China, the notion of MI happens to have much in common with individualized learning concept of College English Teaching Reform. However, MI research in China seems to focus less on its application in real FLT. Therefore, based on MI theory and the current situation of Web-based English learning in an experimental class, the paper offers an elementary discussion on integrating MI theory and college Web-based English learning. This thesis consists of five chapters. Chapter One is the introduction, including the background, methodology, significance and key points of the research. In Chapter Two, both rationale and literature review are elaborated. It discusses some basic principles and viewpoints of MI, the research situation of MI at home and abroad, and the relationship between MI and English Language Teaching (ELT) in China.Chapter Three and Chapter Four constitute the main part of the thesis. Chapter Three presents the methodology of the research. On the basis of the analysis of a survey conducted with an experimental class, the chapter puts forwards the necessity and feasibility of integrating MI with college Web-based English learning. Chapter Four, the practical part of the thesis, deals with the design of some specific modules and flowcharts of the Mi-based Website for college English learning, and the instructional design of the website. The most important part in Chapter Four is a detailed case design for Unit One, focusing on "Love", of New College English (Book One), which provides a proposal for enhancing Web-based English learning through the implementation of MI. Also the Chapter addresses the issue of participating teachers' refection and training. The concluding Chapter summarizes the findings, presents the limitations of the study, and proposes recommendations for further research.
