Along with the deepening development of world education reform,the theory of multiple intelligences highlights its advantages and positive effects,which is accepted and approved by more and more international and domestic education workers.The quality of education in our country has been implemented for many years,and dom estic education reform has made certain achievements.In view of the important role the theory of multiple intelligences plays in conducting the quality education,many scholar s have carried out related researches and are still actively exploring the application of m ultiple intelligences theory to classroom practice.However,there are in many colleges,the theory of multiple intelligences has rarely been applied to the research and practice of college English teaching for art majors.Under the guidance of the theory of multiple intelligences,the paper discusses the significance and feasibility of applying the theory of multiple intelligences to college En glish teaching for art majors and puts forward the teaching guidelines by performing a t eaching experiment on 40 sophomores in Class Flight Attendants and 32 sophomores in Class Music from a university based on the reality of college English teaching and learn ing.The experiment lasted for 18 weeks,including an interview,two questionnaires and two written tests.In this experiment,the theory of multiple intelligences was applied to the English teaching in experimental class while the traditional teaching method was still used in the controlled class.After 18 weeks,the grades between two classes were compared.The results show that the experimental group and the control group are different in students' grades and in improving students' interest in learning English.The analysisresults prove that students' grades in the experimental class are better than those in the controlled class in the post test,and that the behavior and learning attitude of the students has improved significantly.The researcher believes that the application of the theory of multiple intelligences is extremely significant,and that it plays an irreplaceable role in the teaching activities.First,it can help the students to realize the advantages and disadvantages of their English.Second,it can inspire students to participate in the English class activities with interest and enthusiasm.Finally,it can improve their grades to the utmost extents.The paper will provide certain references and guidance for a great number of college English teachers.
