Having analyzed the percentage of Chinese and foreign musical materials in musical textbooks in Tianjin, the author indicates that foreign musical materials especially the European musical materials are still the major part in the content of textbooks. Based on this fact, the author analyses the importance and necessity of multicultural music by comparing the relationships between musical culture and people, musical culture and society and musical education and multicultural music. As the human cultures developing, it is an important trend in musical education to carry forward the Chinese musical culture as well as strengthen students' comprehension of musical cultures in different countries. By using the comparative method in musical education, the author introduces the new ideas, the standards and the implementation of multicultural music education in developed countries that could be used to reference to Chinese musical education. Also, the author has done a research on physiological and psychological characteristics of students in variety ages. It advises that these characteristics could be used when choosing the musical textbooks and the factors those textbooks should have. At the end of this essay, the author brings some opinions and advices on the multicultural music education in China.
