Speaking Of Female Career Issues: Women's Magazine (1915-1931) As The Research Center

Centering around "The Ladies' Journal"(1915 - 1931) and its relevant materialsand taking the problem of female occupation as a starting point, this paper attempts to present of a historical picture of expressions about female occupation of various perspectives, which were conveyed to readers by newspaper media, and illustrate how these expressions influenced the construction of female gender. Through revealing and analysing the expressions on female occupation in "The Ladies' Journal" , I think the occupation - centered expressions of female is not simply a kind of construction of female gender. More importantly, it binds female with male, family, nation and social factors closely. The process of constructing female gender is a process that is continuously reinforcing the importance of male, family, nation and society, with women themselves being the carrier. And women themselves, consciously or unconsciously participate in the process of constructing female gender, which is not dominated by themselves.
