From the end of Cultural Revolution to the last few years of the 20th century, van art held the most important position in Chinese art field. When scanning the works of this trend, we find lots of new art signs which express an artist's emotion towards culture, society and themselves and which embody his development of the useful and discard of the useless of traditional Chinese culture and art. Also, they provide a new art form. In this process, we came to realize that an artist's sight and creative sense are contained in language and sign art works. This sight seeking after excellence and innovation should be taken as a spiritual direction, which is the very thing used by an artist to view things, a constructive visual mechanism and a factor functioning ever since the beginning of art creation. When we take painting or literature as sign reality, it is this spiritual effect that endows us the right to view Chinese van art as a special form of language and a special cultural phenomenonThis thesis, through an analysis of art signs, tries to expound and search the hidden art sign factors, modern thought and traditional signs applied in Chinese van art and discuss the significance of art signs to Chinese van art. Three chapters are included. Chapter one provides the concepts of Chinese van art and art signs. Chapter two expounds the art sign forms in Chinese van art. Chapter three discusses Chinese art sign factors in Chinese van art. Besides.
