As an important component, Chinese folk music is valuable wealth in the treasure house of Chinese national culture. With the times changing of the river of music, folk music has been gradually attached more importance and generalized . What is more, folk music teaching is also gradually popularized. Students know about folk music through all kinds of ways of teaching and learning, for example, folk music appreciation and folk music composition,etc. At the same time, they are under the influence of national culture and music culture, which improves undergraduates'overall quality and patriotism. Therefore, folk music teaching is very important in colleges and universities.China has a vast territory, large population, long history and various types of folk music, and a wide range of representation of places, so there exist regional differences in folk music teaching. The importance of teaching and teaching situation of folk music are all varied in the colleges and universities in every region.Under the guidance of Colleges and Universities Nationwide Public Art Program Curriculum Guide and other documents of the General Office at the Ministry of Education in 2006, the paper investigates and analyses the current situation of folk music appreciation teaching according to the Music Appreciation course of four colleges and universities in Hunan province.The thesis can be divided into three parts: The first part describes briefly the overall teaching situation of folk music appreciation in China and the meaning of folk music appreciation teaching. The second part makes a survey and analysis of the folk music appreciation teaching in four colleges and universities which are Hunan Agricultural University, Hunan International Economics University, Hunan Communication Polytechnic, and Hunan University of Arts and Science. The paper presents the current situation of folk music appreciation teaching in these four colleges and universities according to many aspects of survey, such as opening situation, teaching goal, course setting, content selecting, teaching method, and student situation,etc. The last part comes up with what needs to be improved and promoted of the folk music appreciation teaching in the four colleges and universities based on the investigations above, and ponders the development ideas of folk music appreciation teaching in Hunan colleges and universities in future.
