Translation is a linguistic culture transformation between different languages, and the different versions for the same original text can demonstrate the view of"nonexistence of equivalent translations".In this thesis, the functions of"は"and"が"in linguistic culture transformations from Chinese to Japanese are discussed by means of analysis of compound sentences containing these two words, which can be seen in the two Japanese visions of Romance of the Three Kingdoms. The researches on grammar and relevant relationship between translation and linguistic culture about"は"and"が"have been firstly studied and collected, and their advantages and limitations have been pointed out. With the contrast of these two visions and by the research methods of conversation analytics, it has been found out that the application rules and effects of"は"and"が"in five sentence patterns including causality and many subjects compound sentences, linguistic culture transformation in thematization, transformation between subjects and objects, and linguistic culture transformation due to different understanding of original texts; and through this the thesis demonstrates that"nonexistence of equivalent translations"results from both the particular grammar phenomenon of two different languages and understanding between translators. Conclusions as follows:i. During the translations of causality compound sentences, there are two patterns for using ,which are"…は…(から?ので?ためan so on)…は…"and"…が…(から?ので?ためand so on)…は…", however, translation effects can be totally different if you choose distinct ones according to discourse context.ii. When compound sentences including several subjects are translated, the status of the subjects of simple sentences should be taken into considerations while either"は"or"が"can be written behind subjects.iii. The positions of"は""が"can define the theme and subject of the whole sentence."は"plays a part in making sentence parts thematic, therefore the proper usage of"は"or"が"can ensure the situation in keeping with context.iv. The pattern"subject +predicate +object"widely used in Chinese can be translated into Japanese not only in the same Chinese sentence type but also in the"theme +subject +predicate".v. Different translators own different understanding methods for the same Chinese sentence, the positions of"は"or"が"can be determined according to the emphatic parts after the determination of the theme of the whole sentence on the basis of correct sentence pattern.
