The Painting and Calligraphy market(PACM) in the Republic of China was in a transfer period from traditional stage to modern stage.On the one hand,the old PACM was still playing an important role,on the other hand the new market elements are producing. Meanwhile the old market elements are using,absorbing and inosculating the new market elements actively.In this period there were both reform and innovation and inherit of custom and tradition,the process of these transmutation seems complex and diversity.This article takes Beijing PACM in early Republic of China(1912-1937) as the object of study, arranging and arguing it clearly according the three specific elements in that time provider,intermediary agent and purchaser.The provider of the PACM in the Republic of China and the provider of Chinese traditional painting made up the provider group together. And the intermediary agent have both Gudongpu and Nanzhidian inheriting traditional,and new Painting and Calligraphy exhibition and Painting and Calligraphy association.And the purchasing group was formed complicated,too.The research aiming at the structure system of the PACM in the Republic of China.And it showed both the same period's Chinese PACM's common character in the art market's history,and the self- sufficiency region character which because of located in the specific region——Beijing in the republic of china. This paper did a clear analysis for the structure of market based on the geographical space in Beijing in the Republic of China.After the subtle and macro research,this paper pointed out that the structure of the painting market in Beijing in the Republic of China is an inclusive and interactive structure,which reflects the modernization track of the painting transactions.
