Dan Brown's suspense novels have aroused a great response not only in the United States but all over the world, leading to a hot"Dan Brown wave"among the readers and the serious scholars in different countries. Dan Brown's novels are different from the traditional suspense novels, which have the theme of"punishing the evil and advocating the kind"and follow the mode of"committing crime——crime detected". His novels are knowledge-based suspense novels, which have serious themes. As a comprehensive study of Dan Brown's novels, this paper starts from the themes, creative techniques and methods of expression of Dan Brown's suspense novels, using the narrative and post-modernist theories to demonstrate the different characteristics of Dan Brown's four novels: endowing the novels with rich knowledge of religion, art, architecture and modern high technologies under the serious themes. Dan Brown uses the narrative skills of point-of-view-shift, flash back and non-linear narration, and adopts the post-modernist methods of uncertainty, anti-tradition and subversion as the way of expression, and then unfolds a new way for studying suspense novels.
