Qian Zhongshu is a well-known modern chinese scholar and writer. He writed a novel Fortress Besieged and a short story collection People·Animal·Ghost. Althoug rationality and the spirit of optimism were the dominant tendency of chinese morden literature, his novels written in the early twentieth century has the irrational and pessimistic tint.It was the western irrational ideological trend that made his novels unique, in particular of Schopenhauer's notion about "will-to-live".Schopenhauer and his philosophy had been mentioned in Qian Zhongshu's academic and literary works for many times, He had studyed it deeply and applicated it in his novels. Schopenhauer's theory and his views on tragedy,evil nature of human,women and the relief way were reflected in Qian Zhongshu' novels.Schopenhauer considered that the nature of the world and the people is the will, because of the blind will, mankind does not stop to chase a will which can never be able to really get to meet. Qian Zhongshu defined the tragedy which oringinated the inherent nature of people as "the tragedy of tragedies", and this tragedy was the focus of his novels.Selfishness is human's nature, struggles are inevitable, therefore,life is full of suffering. This is Schopenhauer'views of life. A lot of filth and vulgar characters in Qian Zhongshu'novels is the interpretation of Schopenhauer' theory.Women are the weak "secondary", they are hypocritical, cunning. To win and hold men is the center of their lives, so they disrupt the male out of the road been saved. Such contempt and hatred exist in the novels of Qian Zhongshu.In gender relations,women who pursue men are often been discriminated against.Finding a Spiritual way to escape the suffering of life was their same choice. The narrator" Standing in the Edge of Life" in Qian Zhongshu'novel is something similar to" the wise" in Schopenhauer'heart.
