Anil's Ghost is a Sri Lankan-born Canadian writer Michael Ondaatje's influential work following his famous work English Patient. Compared with his previous works, the idea reflected in this novel has been more further. Ondaatje not only concerned about the reality of the situation of immigrants and identity, his text also across all boundaries, such as center and edge, reality and fiction.Anil's Ghost is a historical novel which happened in Ondaatje's homeland---Sri Lanka. It tells the hero Anil has returned to her homeland after fifteen years, and in the line of the dead bodies "sailor", she had found historical and social truth about Sri Lanka. This text was based on Henri Lefebvre's Spatial Theory and Postcolonial Theory. On the clue of "cross-border", the text cards "force cross-border" and "Ghost" under the truth, then I will investigate the profound meaning and subsequent political stance, and try to outline the cross-border, mobile and pluralistic "open space" and "cross-border identity" in Ondaatje's novel world. The text is divided into four parts. In the first part, I make the war as a starting point, and describe the situation of Sri Lanka which suffer the civil war. This part investigated the problem of war violence. Violence destruction is "force cross-border", which break the boundaries between man and reality of the country. In Ondaatje's work, "force cross-border" will destroy the original social order and make the person into the body difficulty. The second part make "Ghost" and "truth" as the center, which discusses the relationship between the "dumb truth" and the "illusion truth", and the power relations under them. Further the text collapse the boundaries between reality and fiction, even questioned the center of power. The novel's original title was "Anil's Ghost", so the author make a "ghost" as a main line and power, and let them pulling out the truth behind the history. However, the truth is not of practical significance, which is just the the fictional explanation of various interest groups. The third part depended on Lefebvre's Spatial Theory and Homi Bhabha's Post-colonial Theory, which analyzes the construction of "open space" and "cross-border identity" in this novel.
